SORBA is calling all mountain bikers to volunteer to attend the second trail work day slated for February 7, 2009.

Because the park is not open to the general public all volunteers must arrive slightly before 9 am, as county staff will have to unlock the gate and let us in, before re-locking the gate. County staff will come back at 2 pm to unlock the gate and let everyone back out. Don't worry about lunch as SORBA-Chattanooga will be providing lunch to all volunteers.

No prior trail experience is necessary.

Volunteers should bring gloves and something to drink while working. While SORBA-Chattanooga has a tools for volunteers to use, if you have a set of loppers or pruning shears, please feel free to bring them.

Here are directions. Head North on Hwy 58 1/2 mile past the Fire Dept. You'll see a SMALL brown sign for the UTC field classroom. We'll work from 9:00-2:00. It is imperative the everyone is there ON TIME. We are let in the gate as a group and locked in until 2:00. Can't stress this enough! There's no free access. We'll have lunch provided. We will have a lot of tools on hand, but request members to bring loppers if they have a pair. See forum post for entrance to Enterprise South Park

The Up, Around and Down Ride @ Raccoon Mountain. This monthly ride, taking place the last Sunday of each month, will have two options. Option #1: Riders will meet ride leader Erik Rippon in the boat ramp parking lot at the base of Raccoon Mountain. Riders will start, PROMPTLY, at 9:30 am climbing the road to the top of Raccoon Mountain where they will ride the trail on top of the mountain before blasting back down the mountain to conclude their ride. I hate to post this notice so late, but today's up, around, and down ride is cancelled. With temps currently in the upper twenties I am concerned about doing trail damage due to freeze/thaw conditions, this is probably an overkill, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

See everyone next month!

The trail was in excellent shape today after lunch. The parking lots were full and everybody was smiling. I rode the main loop and had a good time minus the wind.

Thanks Eric for cancelling the ride. RM is having issues in a few spots due to water and freeze/thaw. If only more were "better safe than sorry". We'll be doing some work up there on March 28th to repair the damage.

Still waiting on TVA to approve a reroute on East Rim but that should be coming soon. Also Barry and I continue to flag down the mtn and are still looking for TVA approval on that as well.
