Trek Store of Chattanooga Offers Incentive to Join SORBA

The Trek Store of Chattanooga has been a huge supporter of SORBA-Chattanooga since first opening its doors, and their support continues.
Currently the Chattanooga Trek Store is offering a free pint glass to anyone who goes into the shop and signs up for a one year membership with SORBA-CHattanooga.   They also state that, “if you ask very nicely we may have something to put in that glass.”

SORBA-Chattanooga Awarded Lyndhurst Foundation Grant

The Lyndhurst Foundation has awarded SORBA-Chattanooga a $15,000 grant to expand trails in the greater Chattanooga area.
The grant directs $10,000 be spent on completing a portion of the connector trail between Lula Lake Land Trust to Cloudland Canyon State Park. SORBA-Chattanooga will move forward with the machine work on this section this month, with the goal of completing this section in the next 60 days.

Trek Store Raises $1,380 For SORBA-Chattanooga’s Trail Fund

The Trek Store’s Bicycle Industry and Cycling Advocacy Party, held as part of it 2010 Spring Classic, raised $1,380.00 for the SORBA-Chattanooga Trial Fund.
The Trek Store provided a booth for SORBA-Chattanooga to provide information about on going trial construction and maintenance projects, as well as information about mountain bike rides, socials and races the organization has scheduled.

SORBA-Chattanooga Delegate Attends 2010 National Bike Summit in Washington D.C.

Last week (March 9-11) was the National Bike Summit. It is held annually in Washington, D.C., and each year cyclists of the on and off-road variety descend on the nation’s capital to learn and practice advocacy for themselves and their bicycling brethren. This year marked my first experience with the summit, but it will most certainly not be my last.

Trust for Public Land Preserves Stringer’s Ridge

Rick Wood, director of the Chattanooga office of the Trust for Public Land announced that Stringer’s Ridge has been saved from future development with the donation of a conservation easement by the current property owner. The historic land, which also helps give Chattanooga it’s natural and ridge-lined frame, can never be developed, according to the terms of the easement.

Wine For The Climb A Huge Success

SORBA-Chattanooga officially kicked off its 2010 fund raising campaign with Wine For The Climb, a wine and cheese event held on January 14 at the Outdoor Chattanooga building.
The event drew 150 people raising approximately $9,000 for the trail expansion project, in ticket sales, donations, and a silent auction of a piece of artwork created by artist Celeste Sneed.  This amount represents about 17% of the funds necessary to fully complete the Raccoon Mountain trail expansion.

TVA Approves SORBA-Chattanooga Led Night Rides on Raccoon Mountain

SORBA-Chattanooga reached an agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to host weekly night rides on Raccoon Mountain.
“SORBA-Chattanooga’s has always maintained a positive relationship with TVA, and they view mountain bikers as a responsible user group,” according to Jeffrey S. Schaarschmidt, SORBA-Chattanooga’s president.  “This was key in obtaining approval to host Thursday night rides at the facility.”
