Cloudland Canyon Rangers Gifted Mountain Bikes

- Park Manager Bobby Wilson holds one of two new Trek Mountain Bikes gifted to the park. (From R to L) Lula Lake Land Trust (LLLT) Board Member Bobby Davenport, LLLT property manager Walt Hodges, SORBA-Chattanooga President Jeffrey Schaarschmidt, Park Manager Bobby Wilson, Master Trail Designer Barry Smith, and LLLT Board Member Mike Pollock.

On Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m., Cloudland Canyon State Park was gifted two mountain bikes by the Lula Lake Land Trust, SORBA-Chattanooga, private donations, and the Chattanooga Trek Store. The bikes will be used by he park manager and rangers to patrol the park trails including the soon to be constructed Connector and Five Points area trails.
The mountain bikes provide Park Manager Bobby Wilson and his staff the tools to travel quicker to more remote areas of the park without having to resort to the use of ORVs, which can cause trail damage and erosion.
The Lula Lake Land Trust, SORBA-Chattanooga, the Lyndhurst Foundation and Cloudland Canyon State Park have partnered with the goal of constructing a14 miles multi-use connector trail between the Lula Lake Land Trust and Cloudland Canyon State Park, and an additional 10 to 15 miles of additional singletrack biking and hiking trails at the five-points area. The project has received approval from GA Deptartment of Natural Resources, and trail flagging is presently underway.
Last Oct., the Land Trust turned over management of the Long Branch section of the Cloudland Canyon Connector Trail to the GA Deptartment of Natural Resources. The Long Branch trail represents the first phase of what will ultimately be a 14-mile corridor trail stretching from Nickajack Rd. in Walker County, GA to Cloudland Canyon State Park. The bikes will be used by rangers to patrol the trail.

Jeffrey,
Did you tell them to take the reflectors off the bikes?
Being a patrol bike there will likely be ridden around the campground potions of the park, I suspect they will want to keep them on the bike.
